Wireless Captioning for Sports and Entertainment Venues
"Which seat do I have to sit in?"
Choosing where to sit at sporting events isn't just a matter of which seat is closest to the action for the 32 million deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the United States. If captioning of the commentary is even provided at all in these venues, these spectators are usually constrained to sitting in front of a communal captioning screen or next to an interpreter.

Intelligent AccessTM, the wireless captioning technology developed by Landmarc Research Center, frees people from these limitations. With their own personal captioning device, deaf and hard-of-hearing fans can sit anywhere they would like, without needing to take their eyes off what's happening on the field. |
Bringing the Action Closer
Landmarc's personal captioning system works in realtime, sending the text translation of the audio information that other fans hear, such as color commentary, and facility and emergency announcements, as well as song lyrics to the music played in the stadium.
The system runs on smartphones and mobile devices like the iPod, and trials have been tested in football and baseball stadiums. The electronic sunglasses (heads-up dsplay) enable the user to read the audio translations in realtime while they watch the sporting event.
Sharing the Experience As It Happens
Landmarc's system uses established technology to translate audio into text. Using a CART system, the venue can create the text of the color commentary in realtime. Landmarc's wireless technology then sends that translated information to the mobile devices via WiFi.

The heads-up display augments the sporting event action and enables the deaf or hard-of-hearing fan to share in the same rich media experience as hearing patrons. (Above: the electronic sunglasses made by Vuzix, compatible with the Intelligent Access system.)
The electronic eyewear is recommended for any event where patrons might miss something if they looked away, as in a theater. The eyeware option allows the action of the game or the movie to be augmented by the captioned text. The text floats in front of the wearer of the electronic eyewear and is superimposed on the scene they are viewing |
Multi-venue Application
Landmarc's sports venue captioning system has been tested at outdoor stadiums for football and baseball, and attendees have used the system at Georgia Tech's very own Russ Chandler Stadium. The application includes protection for copyrighted material, such as color commentary, that prevents the text from being saved on the device after the event.
Explore Captioing Partnerships
Using Intelligent Access' "one device, many venues" philosophy, Landmarc is expanding its application into additional sporting event opportunities. Contact us to learn more about how this exciting technology can work for your stadium or venue.
