The Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) at GTRI conducts research in broad areas involving electro-optical systems, including remote sensing, modeling and analysis, integrated sensing systems, optical device technology, LIDAR system design and measurement, microelectronics, nanotechnology, solid state lighting, performance support systems, sensor data collection and analysis - and even education. In particular, EOSL has significant programs in multi-spectral imaging and hyper-spectral imaging, built on the expertise developed for Department of Defense programs over many years. We also have some of the leading experts in modeling atmospheric turbulence and electro-optical systems.
EOSL is exploring new areas of research, such as medical imaging and optical communications, that leverage its national leadership in sensing technologies, systems engineering, and atmospheric scattering and modeling. Our approach frames the solutions to stakeholder's problems n terms of systems-based solutions that are capable of integrating two or more technologies. This enables us to assemble cross-disciplinary teams to find the best technical approaches to solving the problem without disciplinary limitations.
Technology / Research Focus
Our lab is organized in technology groups pursuing research in these core areas:
In addition, EOSL sponsors several Centers of Excellence. These Centers are more independent research groups with strong working relationships with defense, government and industry partners. The cross-disciplinary nature of these centers enables them to encompass wider fields of interest. Our Centers of Excellence currently are:
Mission
We solve complex problems through innovative electro-optical research to provide customer-focused solutions!
Technology Partners
We invite colleagues with similiar research interests to contact us. EOSL continues to expand our research areas and collaborations. Our active research teams work with many outside groups from acedemia, government, and industry, and also with other groups within Georgia Tech.
